GRE Preparation: Resources List
NOTE: This list of GRE Preparation resources is not comprehensive. The inclusion of GRE Prep resources on this page does not imply endorsement of these resources by the UNC-Chapel Hill
There are local courses, self-instructional books and guides, online courses and online practice sessions available to help you prepare for the GRE. You may find the GRE Prep courses and resources in your community at the following places:
- Community Colleges: Adult and Continuing Education Divisions
- Local public and private colleges and universities: Adult and Continuing Education Divisions, Career Counseling Centers, Learning Centers and libraries
- National test prep private companies offering local or online courses (Kaplan, Princeton Review, etc.)
- Public Libraries and Local Bookstores: GRE test prep books and software

This website was developed by Educational Testing Service (ETS), the test development and measurement company that developed the GRE. From the homepage, select "Test Preparation Materials" from the menu for a number of free guides and practice software for both the General Test and the Subject Tests. Many of the materials can be accessed directly or downloaded from the website.
GRE Prep courses for students applying to the UNC School of Public Health or School of Nursing:
There are special GRE Prep courses offered throughout the state for individuals interested in applying to these two UNC schools. Students in other schools are also invited to join and will be accepted on a space available basis. GRE Prep courses and resources for the UNC community:
- The UNC Learning Center located in the Phillips Hall Annex offers GRE Prep Courses throughout the year. For more information and schedules, see their website: http://www.unc.edu/depts/lcweb/.
- UNC Libraries offers electronic access to the Online GRE Practice Test and two online books, Master the GRE CAT and Ultimate GRE Tool Kit. Off-campus access requires a UNC-CH PID number.
